Panama Cruising
Permits
Cruising
Permit Changes As of September 2010
By Mary J. Robertson
Cruising permit regulations
have changed. Please read the article “New Panama Cruising Rules.”
Mariner's visas can be purchased
for up to six months.
Now cruisers enter purchasing a
90-day Mariner’s (or tourist) visa for $15 per person and can be
extended in Changuinola for another 3 months.
If you come in by bus or plane,
Immigration gives an automatic 6 months tourist visa.
You will need the corporation
documents showing proper ownership, crew list, and passports. Fees (see
listed below) are collected by each authority (port captain, customs,
quarantine, and immigration) for the clearing process plus their
transport since the port authorities dock is in bad repair. Most clear
either at anchor or at our marina dock after permission from the port
captain.
There are overtime fees for
holidays and outside the normal hours of Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to
3:00 p.m. with lunch from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.
You will need to purchase a
Panamanian courtesy flag, which are available in Bocas after arrival.
Specifically the costs to clear
into Bocas del Toro Islas, Panama are listed below:
$25 – Immigration
$25 – Customs
$20 – Quarantine
$20 – AMP Port Captain
$15 – Water taxi service Bocas / Marina Carenero / Bocas
$105 – Normal Clearing Charges
Over Time Fees clearing in after
hours:
4 x $20 = $80 ($20 per each authority)
Plus the proper Cruising Permit as
stated above.
